In other words, half of the line-up does not incorporate it as an accessory layer, but as the core of the model. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The data confirms a trend that was already emerging: AI has completed its transition from an emerging technology to a<strong> structural layer<\/strong> that cuts across all sectors. Climate tech, fintech, health, consumer or enterprise; all the verticals present in the competition incorporate AI as a foundational element, not as a marketing argument. <\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The most international line-up in its history<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">South Summit Madrid 2026 reaches the highest level of international representation in its history, with <strong>26 countries<\/strong> among the finalists, compared to 22 last year. Europe accounts for 77% of the line-up, the United States contributes 6% and Latin America strengthens its presence, going from 7 to 10 startups. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Spain continues to be the main contributing country with <strong>44 finalists,<\/strong> but the significant figure goes in the opposite direction: it drops from the 54 of the previous edition. <strong>That relative loss is not bad news<\/strong>, but rather the signal that the event is no longer a national showcase and is becoming a truly global platform. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Within the country, Madrid (19) and Catalonia (15) account for more than 75% of the representation, followed by the Valencian Community (4), Andalusia and Navarre (2 each) and the Region of Murcia and the Basque Country (1). Outside Spain, the leaders are Portugal (7), the United States (6) and France (5). <\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>More revenue, more investment, more maturity<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Probably the most significant change is neither in AI nor in internationalisation, but in the <strong>financial profile <\/strong>of the finalists. The figures portray an ecosystem that has left the exploratory phase behind: <\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>57% generate more than $150,000 in revenue <\/strong>(compared to 50% last year).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>35% exceed half a million dollars<\/strong> in revenue.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>4% <strong>exceed 5 million.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>60% have raised more than one million <\/strong>in investment.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>53% <strong>are already backed by Venture Capital funds.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The result is a line-up that is substantially more mature than in previous editions. The Startup Competition is no longer a showcase for early-stage projects and is becoming a stage for scale-ups with <strong>real traction and institutional backing.<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>From competition to strategic filter<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">South Summit has completed a quiet but decisive turn: it is no longer just a competition, it is a <strong>selection mechanism for European dealflow<\/strong>. That only 2.2% of applications reach the final marks the level of demand, but also the event&#8217;s real function: to act as a prior filter for investors, corporations and industrial partners. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In a context where capital is scarcer and more selective, reaching the final means having met the demands of scalability, traction and exit potential that the market requires today. In practice, it is a pre-validation. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Compass added value: A more mature ecosystem does not make entry easier, it redefines where the winning happens<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The immediate reading of South Summit 2026 is that the ecosystem is growing. But the figure hides something more uncomfortable:<strong> a system that matures does not open doors, it closes them better.<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When half of the finalists use AI as their core technology,<strong> artificial intelligence stops being an argument. <\/strong>Investment rounds are becoming more abundant, and fewer candidates are selected in relative terms. <strong>So the bar rises, but it also moves.<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The consequence is strategic. While all competitors have access to the same models, the same metrics and the same investors, competitive advantage is no longer built with what everyone has. The relevant question for a startup is no longer &#8220;do I use AI?&#8221; or &#8220;do I have traction?&#8221; and becomes <strong>&#8220;what makes my solution not replicable by another team with the same technology and the same capital?&#8221;<\/strong>. The answer is usually outside the technology stack: proprietary data, vertical depth, structural distribution, real understanding of the customer.   <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The fact that the system is growing is good news for the ecosystem.
